To a solution of quinine (78.2 mg, 0.2 mmol) in methanol (10 mL), a solution of ZnCl2 (27.2 mg, 0.2 mmol) in methanol (10 mL) was added. The mixture was stirred and heated at 50C for 2 h, and cooled to room temperature. The resulting solution was treated with aqueous HCl and filtered to remove staring materials. By slow evaporation of the filtrate at room temperature, white single crystals suitablefor X-ray diffraction were obtained after two weeks.The complex was identified as [(Quin)ZnCl3] (I).
